Dr. Wei Yu received his B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Zhejiang University in China, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from UCLA. Dr. Yu is a successful serial entrepreneur and focused on the translation of basic research into viable commercial ventures. Dr. Yu has started 4 companies and raised over 50 million dollars for businesses ranging from P2P marketplace to information technology and biotechnology.
Dr. Yu carried out original research on the cultivation of microalgae and cyanobacteria at UCLA where he developed a fundamental understanding of microalgae cultivation. Lyxia and Shenzhen Qianhai Xiaozao Technology Co., Ltd. were founded in 2012 and 2015 respectively to drive the commercialization of this novel microalgae cultivation platform to sustainably produce high value products from natural microalgae. Dr. Yu has collaborated closely with research institutes and industrial partners worldwide on a variety of projects related to microalgae.
